AI Cookbook?
Business and Marketing in the World
With the rapid acceleration of artificial intelligence, it is no surprise that everyone is looking to grab a slice of the potential money to be made by utilizing this new technology. While reputable companies are looking to use this innovation for solid, legit products, there is also a massive influx of people looking to simply make a quick buck by using artificial intelligence to scam people and imitate real work.
The latest scam in this fad? Fake cookbooks. The scammers using artificial intelligence have identified cookbooks as a product that is very easy to replicate and the target audience is not the most technologically literate. The main demographic of people looking to purchase things like cookbooks are mainly between the ages of 35 to 65. This group of people are not as keen on things to watch out for when shopping on the internet. This demographic largely does not even have an ad-blocker which anyone surfing the internet should have.
One such example of an author who saw his book imitated shared his story. Joanne Lee Molinaro, an award winning author for her cookbook The Korean Vegan was browsing Amazon one day and noticed something strange. She found a very convincing knockoff of her cookbook on the front page of the storefront. Upon further inspection she realizing one really scary fact, the author of the knockoff was not human, rather, it was written by an artificial intelligence. While reading the book, Joanne was shocked to see paraphrased accounts of her actual life stories that she wrote about alongside her recipes in the book. The cookbook was filled with the recipes that she created, coupled with weird retellings of her personal life stories that she claims were filled with grammatical errors and typos. There was even an error on the front title of the book!
Molinaro luckily worked as a lawyer as her day job so she was able to quickly work with her publishing agency to take this scam off of the storefront. However, not before the artificial intelligence written book had already sold multiple copies across the globe.
Overall, the available technology in relation to artificial intelligence is rapidly moving along. It is more important than ever to ensure that people are using this available technology for legit products and innovations rather than to simply make a quick book by scamming other people or ripping off hard-working citizens like Joanna Lee Molinaro who simply wanted to share her recipes with the world!
Ugh, AI everywhere, and a lot of it not good.
